The National Rifle Association is an extremely powerful lobbying group. So when it pressured lawmakers to hold Eric Holder in contempt of Congress, they listened. The resolution passed, and it was the NRA's crowning achievement of their campaign against Holder -- launched after the fallout over Operation: Fast and Furious. NRA officials astonishingly accuse the Obama administration of conspiring to use the "scandal" to undermine the second amendment. But they have made no such statements. And according to a Fortune investigation, its a scandal that rightwingers should bare the blame for. Law enforcement were hampered in their efforts to stop guns tracked in the operation, because of lax gun laws championed by guess who? The NRA.
