NANCY Pelosi is a member of the Democratic Party, and represents California's 12th congressional district, which consists of four-fifths of the city and county of San Francisco.

Pelosi was born into an Italian-American family and is the youngest of six children.
She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 26, 1940, making her 78 years old.
She's been involved with politics from an early age, with both her father and brother serving as Mayor of Baltimore.
In her outgoing remarks as the 52nd Speaker of the House, Pelosi said that she had attended John F. Kennedy's inaugural address when he became US President in January 1961.
She graduated from the Institute of Notre Dame, a Catholic all-girls high school in Baltimore.
In 1962, she graduated from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. with a BA in political science.
Later she moved to San Francisco and worked her way up in Democratic politics.
