February 9, 1985 - Indiana Pacers rookie Terence Stansbury flew his way to a third place finish at the 1985 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

On the origin of the Statue of Liberty Dunk, at age 16:

"I was trying to do the basic Dr. J reverse dunk that I knew from the East Coast where he would jump off of one leg and then do a reverse 190 and dunk backwards. And that day I just kept turning in the air and the ball went in. All my teammates were looking at me like, "What the hell was that?" - Terence Stansbury, NBA History Podcast with Adam Ryan: http://inallairness.com/air058-terenc... (41:32)

Much thanks to Joachim Johnsrud for the '85 footage. See the entire contest here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeLZjP...
