H2O worked with 7th graders at Lancaster School as part of the MPS & Arts @ Large 'Fill the Gaps Initiative,' meeting critical needs for schools without traditional music and art teachers. In getting to know these students, we learned that MONEY was the most important topic that concerned them so we tailored our theme around that for this project. We started by writing down words they knew associated with money and used them to assist them in writing verses for the song. We wanted to create a positive association with money, how to earn it, using it to get the things you want, while saving for the future and making investments in their futures. One of the most impressive feats with our students was that they were able to record the entire song within 40 minutes. Their commitment to one another was incredible to witness and it really brought everyone together in a very significant way. One of the many reasons we love this program. Way to go Lancaster!!
