Had to take care of the top end of my YZ250. I took the opportunity to make my favorite port adjustment that DeoVindice showed me. Have to keep the details under wraps since they're "proprietary", but it makes for great gains in bottom end power even with a mid range pipe. I think this adjustment is a must for any two stroke no matter the type of riding, but woods riders/racers like myself will benefit the most.
I also attempt to redeem myself for the 250R first start vid. I get it fired with a few kicks, but the first time I run it around the yard I left the choke on so the engine sputtered and smoked a bit. Once I turned it off it ran cleanly and felt like the port work did what I wanted.
Since making this video I've taken the bike for a couple of rides and the change is dramatic. I can lug the bike up difficult terrain without too much effort, but then it really wakes up in the mid range (a little too suddenly thanks to the damn FMF pipe). Carb still needs a little tuning and if the bike had slightly more low end power it would be perfect; might be able to coax a bit more out of it the next time it's due. I let a friend ride this and he said it felt like a four stroke.
