Graduate Student and PhD candidate Kate Liszka from the University of Pennsylvania's Archaeology Department talks about the winged scarab and its relationship to Egyptian religious beliefs. The winged scarab was worn directly over the heart of mummies and it represented their rebirth into the afterlife. The winged scarab was created in the image of a dung beetle because the beetle was said to be birthed from a ball of dung.
