The Encampment for Citizenship (EFC) is a youth leadership program founded in 1946 by Algernon Black, a leader of the New York Society for Ethical Culture (NYSEC), and Alice Pollitzer, as an opportunity for "young adults of many religious, racial, social and national backgrounds" to learn "the principles and techniques of citizenship in a liberal democracy through lived experience." The EFC was re-established in 2013 after a 16-year hiatus and offers this transformative program for today’s youth (ages 15-18).
