ANDY (FREE) FRASER R.I.P. 1952-2015
March 19, 2015 – 8:22 am
Free bassist Andy Fraser, the writer of All Right Now - who had previously fought both AIDS and cancer - has died at his home on March 16, 2015 in California. He was 62.
The cause of death has not been confirmed, but he’d been dealing with AIDS and cancer in recent years. In the 1980s he was diagnosed with HIV and a form of cancer called Kaposi’s Sarcoma and he battled with suicidal thoughts which, he wrote on his website, were only alleviated when he came out as gay. Fraser had recently been a leading light in the Rock Against Trafficking
charity.

Very sad. That he was an incredible and thorouhly unique musician practically goes without saying. But what a great guy! I used to work for the music publisher that had the rights to All right Now. Not a week would go by without someone requesting to use it in their movie, commercial, etc. When one of these requests come in, my buddy would make up an arbitrary figure based on what he thought people could pay. Then I’d call Andy in CA and
run it by him as The Voice of Rock let him handle that stuff. Andy would inevitably be cheerful. Sure it rained money when I called, but that wasn’t it. He was a true gentleman, very kind. It was a terrible job but I have always considered my interactions with Andy as a real highliht. RIP mah man. You fought long and hard.
