A style of frozen dessert that started in Southeast Asia is spreading in the United States: rolled ice cream, also called Thai stir-fried ice cream. The ice cream “chefs” add cookies, candy, and even pizza to the ice cream mixture. Then, the ice cream begins to freeze. Next, the chef spreads it in a thin layer over the cold surface. After a few seconds, the chef uses a tool to scrape and roll the ice cream. The rolls go in a cup and are covered with fruit or flavored syrup. Rolled ice cream can be found in many U.S. cities. Class 520 Ice Cream is a popular ice creamery in Bethesda, Maryland. It features rolled ice cream in flavors like “Oreo Secret” and “Thai-Tanic”. It has quickly expanded to several stores.
