In his first season of racing, Sotonia CC's 24 year old Ben Cadie, cleaned up the top awards in the club's open hill climb promotion held on Dean Hill, on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border.

Cadie had previously won a shorter race on the same hill in March, so was seen as the man to beat. In fine Autumn conditions with bright sunshine and little wind, Cadie from Up Somborne, didn't belie his favourite status, storming up the one and quarter mile climb in 5 minutes 1 second. In doing so he won the £100 first prize put up by Sotonia CC and a further £50 for being the best Sotonia rider, from race sponsor Roselea Apiaries. Not only that, Cadie also won a winner's jersey donated by Halosport, making it a very profitable five minute's work!

Cadie's ride saw him beat previous event winner, Brook Elgie (Peter Hansford Racing) by 14 seconds, into the runner up position. Third place went to Somerset Road Club junior Oscar White, who climbed the hill in 5.27.

With Sotonia's Joanne Horsnell finishing the fastest lady in 8.06, Graham Vail fastest 40-50 year old (5.40)and Martin Ward winning the best over 60's prize by crossing the line in 7.21, it was an excellent day for the promoting club.
