This short documentary focuses on the effects of an educational program using the Earth Charter in La Reforma prison in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The video explores the empowerment and hope-giving effects of the Earth Charter among the prisoners in the prison education program, as well as the and environmental awareness that the Earth Charter promotes.
This documentary shows the positive influence of the Earth Charter, even in a place as bleak as a prison. The documentary includes interviews with the two teachers involved, Rita Tortos and Geannina Herrera, and the prisoners themselves showing the positive effect and increased sense of responsibility that the prisoners have come to feel through their exposure to the Earth Charter and its power as a tool for social rehabilitation.
This project was realized by Douglas F. Williamson New York, award-winning environmental filmmaker and staff member of the Earth Charter International in Costa Rica.
