Steve Kaplan defeats Olympic gold medalist Eduard Vinokurov 5-3 in a team match between USA and the Soviet Union at the Montreal Olympic Games 1976.
Those unfamiliar with the dry (non electric) sabre era will notice some obvious differences. The fencers are permitted to cross their feet while going forward. If a fencer goes off the end line they are placed on the two meter warning line. The scoring tower is set for touches for, not against. The fencers change sides when the third touch is scored. There are four judges (two on each side) and the referee "polls" them on the actions. The ref can overrule one judge, but not both if they agree.
