The foundation for Shelley's story is built upon the premise that she was neglected as a child, unloved, verbally abused and lacked proper parental instruction among other things. Sadly, I'm here to tell you that she has grossly mischaracterized our parents, misrepresented actual events and intentionally omitted truths.
We share the same set of parents, experienced the same upbringing, lived in the same house, and had the same neighbors, went to the same church, attended the same schools, received the same discipline, ate the same food, drank the same water and yet I never considered a life in porn or prostitution. Neither did my other sister who went to a Christian university, got married, and enjoys a life serving God through her church and local community.
I do not care about Shelley's past transgressions as we all have our fair share of mistakes and shortcomings. But let me be clear, my transgressions exist because I made the choice to transgress in the first place. We are in a poor condition as people when our mistakes are always someone else's fault. I'm not negating the important role parents play in developing a child but Shelley is not the product of a broken and impoverished home. She had two loving parents (who are still married after 45 years), a stable home environment, a safe neighborhood, good schools and a supportive family.
For these very reasons, she has no one else but herself to blame.
