Advertisements are so plentiful in daily life, that it's rare to consider the creative people who put their efforts into making billboard signs, glossy magazine ads or television commercials.

But each year, the Advertising Federation of Northwestern Pennsylvania (AFNWPA) aims to change that by participating in the ADDY awards, which reward the hard work put forth by individuals and groups to create effective, artistic advertisements.

The 2010 ADDY Awards honored several Edinboro University art majors for their TV commercial, "Mount Pleasant," for Edinboro's Mount Pleasant ski resort.

The commercial, developed by an Edinboro University Computer Animation III class in the fall of 2010, depicts a family of animated penguins skiing Mount Pleasant's slopes and relaxing in the resort lounge.

The class project comprised the commercial's creation from start to finish, including idea brainstorming, character development, and sound and camera operations.

The students involved in the making of "Mount Pleasant" were: Danny Burger, Mark Chudkowski, Laura Cook, Mike DiRenzo, Leslie Gordon, Dorothy Groesbeck, James Guzik, Emily Herron, Alicia Kramer, Andrew Lageman, Justin Miller, Mike Otero, Nathan Raddell, Joe Rupert, Samantha Shreffler, Michael Terp, Christine Thompson, Jessie Wymyczak, and Jordan Zabady. The class was taught by Steve Carpenter, a computer animation professor and two-time Edinboro University alumnus.

The commercial aired on December 2010 on WJET, WSEE, WICU, FOX, and TWC.

The ADDY Awards are the only creative awards program provided both by and for the advertising industry. The program is the world's largest advertising competition, with more than 60,000 annual entries.
