Republican Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich spoke at the College of Charleston as as part of "The Bully Pulpit Series: Reflections on Presidential Communication" and Congressman Tim Scott's First in the South Presidential Town Hall Series. The event, held November 28, 2011, attracted more than 700 people and CNN's "John King USA" program broadcast live from the College's Randolph Hall.

Newt Gingrich was the Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999. He is chairman of the Gingrich Group, a communications and consulting firm that specializes in transformational change, with offices in Atlanta and Washington.

The Bully Pulpit Series: Reflections on Presidential Communication asks the individual presidential candidates to speak with students and Charleston community members on such topics as the frequency of press conferences, the candidate's relationship with journalists, and the power of the president to persuade. This non-partisan series is a joint effort of the College's Department of Communication and the Department of Communication Advisory Council. The event is free and open to the public.
