Kabelkrantadmin is an open source, digital signage platform. Its initial version has been deployed over the last years by several local television stations and used in amateur digital broadcasting. The Bulletin board player runs from virtually any available hardware and graphicscard combination, while the content management webinterface requires only a Pentium III or above. Although primary designed for text generation and sequential video playout, extra modules allow the planning and insertion of videos at a given time.
One of the unique features within KKA is the ability to style categories. As you can see in the right corner the tab is now named "General". While the left image is changed. For any category, a user can define an endless list of image variations within its broadcast template. Because templates can also be variated depending on content: text, photos or video, the system covers virtually any use-case with respect to static display of data. Open Standards are used to define templates and output. An XSL document is used to define an Scalable Vector Graphics file. SMIL is used to represent playlists.
Because of the standards used, the output of KKA will run from any Standard Definition television screen to Super Hi-Vision, from full resolution, to anamorph display or just a regular website. The possibilities are not limited by technology. While the current product offering suits most needs, Kinkrsoftware is innovating to build the playout system of the future. Allowing multiseat live broadcasting in a box, implemented in open standards and as open source.
