Music was once a means of expression, I know I'm talking about the stone age, but I'd prefer that on our "modern" world. Stanley Clarke and Ndugu Chancler are amoung the very few students even music is priviliged to have. They have not only taken the legacy of convention ahead, but also made their own impressions on the way their respective instruments are played as well as the description of music. Patrice Rushen is just what was required to let the two maestros fly away without worrying for the music to remain understandable for the audience. A Sonny Rollins composition, and mind it, a tricky one indeed but done so effectively that it takes the listener to a trance like state which is more like a trip, with a slight change that you don't want it to end !!
