Kashmir has been the core issue between India and Pakistan for 62 years. The normalization talks between India and Pakistan on Kashmir have helped reduce tensions and prevent a return to the climate of 2001-2002, when they were on the verge of all-out war. However, progress has been limited to peripheral issues. In an interview with Muhammad Atif, Sardar Khalid Ibrahim, President of Jamu and Kashmir Peoples Party, said any solution that does not reflect the expectations of the people of Kashmir, will not be acceptable.
