The "Blip," the "Spurt," and two "Dashes" that define what social media really looks like in our brave new world. From the emotional currency of the Blip, to the productive energy of the Spurt, and the defining Dashes of our days and inspirations, Lani Voivod, co-owner and Ally in Possibility at Epiphanies Inc., brings together our real-world lives and our social media lives in a powerful new way.

"Here's to the Crazy Ones."

"Here's to the Crazy Ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status-quo.

You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward.

And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world - are the ones who DO!"

Most social media strategy is about measurement and ROI. And yet, there's another counter-intuitive way to approach your social media strategy, and you may be just crazy enough to go with this one.

Lani is obsessed with two dashes. The first one is the one in-between the "A-Ha!"

There's Oprah Winfrey's "Aha! Moment" and Mutual of Omaha's "Aha Moment" campaign. Father David Rickey, co-founder of SoulsCode.com, said:

"We don't create 'A-Ha' moments, we simply prepare the awareness to receive what the 'life force' is always trying to communicate."

But it's not about the moment. When you look at "A-Ha!" you see "A" and a "Ha!" - a bit of laughter. Laughter is inspired action. It is the ACTION of being joyful. The magic is in that JOY.

The social web is the ultimate "A-Ha!" petri dish. It's literally a machine that allows you to see what your friends and connections are saying and doing and thinking. The flood of ideas and inspiration are always flowing, always there for YOU.

Instant Publication = Empowering Tools.

Share experiences as you're living them.

Everything's at the power of your little thumb. Your energy, your vibe, your spirit - it can be shared to a broader audience soooo easily.

With Facebook's Timeline (http://www.facebook.com/about/timeline) and their 850 million worldwide users, Facebook is looking to systemize how people view, record, consume, share, and really, EXPERIENCE their lives.

Facebook is celebrating "THE BLIP."

These BLIPS are the new EMOTIONAL and SOCIAL currency. These little blips create and foster the emotional connection between humans that make all the difference.

"No one wants a dull, boring, BLIPLESS life."

When you blip out information, there's a business case to it. Every bit of content you share, you are growing your online presence, your SEO and SMO, as well as the possibility of connections, of collaboration, of sharing ideas, and the OPPORTUNITY to see for yourself what you're about.

Which brings us to the SPURT.

The SPURT is the creative drive, the energy that you must seize and take care of every chance you get.

Spurts can happen 10 minutes every morning, or one hour every year. You have to become aware of what works with YOU. Social media platforms are just tools. YOU are the one in charge. You have to pay attention to your strengths, what feels good, what feels right, and RUN WITH IT.

"During your SPURT, BLIP like crazy!"

This is where your PEAK PERFORMANCE lives. If your biz has an important trade show or event coming up, take advantage of the buzzing energy of your team and BLIP IT. People respond to this energy, and in the online realm, this is how you attract new clients, prospects, and customers.

BLIP = the emotional connection

As to trying to answer the question: "But how can I succeed in social media?" Know it's not a linear path.

You have to learn to be fearless. FEARLESSNESS is not something we're born with. You have to experiment, play, fail, and try again.

The other dash Lani is obsessed with is the little dash between the date we're born and the date we die. Lani hopes it can remind us all to be a little less concerned about what other people think, and more focused about what YOU want to do with this little blip of time. Your mission and vision depends on it. Do something that's valuable to YOU.

Life is too short NOT to take a chance, make a video, start a business, try a new marketing campaign, etc. Social media channels are there for YOU. Use them!

Have fun.

Stay inspired.

And as Dr. Seuss said:

"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
