(THIS VIDEO SHOULD BE WATCHED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE OTHER RELATED VIDEOS ON THIS CHANNEL).

In this excerpt from the BBC Documentary The Truth About Your Food see how metabolic testing is performed using an indirect calorimeter similar to the hooded tests shown in some of the other videos on this channel.

In this documentary the medical professionals used "direct measurement" (ironic because the device is referred to as in indirect calorimeter) of this woman's metabolic rate instead of the DLW method (doubly-labeled water) used in some of the other videos. Both types of tests are VERY accurate.

In this instance the researchers analyzed the makeup of the oxygen she consumed and the amount of carbon dioxide she expelled during various tests. On average, a person will burn about 5 calories for every liter of oxygen consumed.

Be sure to watch the other metabolic videos on this channel to get a broader perspective on what the underlying reason why most overweight people don't/can't lose weight and only get larger and larger.
