Gritty, fast, and direct. Despite receiving little love on future compilations, this has always been one of my favorites from the Iron City Houserockers' second album "Have a Good Time But Get Out Alive!" (1980). This song is one of five on the album that were produced and arranged by an uncredited Steven Van Zandt (also known as Little Steven).

Have a Good Time but Get out Alive! is a studio album by the Iron City Houserockers. Something of a heartland rock masterpiece, Have a Good Time but Get out Alive! was where the Iron City Houserockers showed just how good they could be with the right songs and producers. From the album artwork to the lyrics and tight delivery, the album seethes with barely restrained grit and desperation. Although well-received critically, commercial success eluded the Iron City Houserockers outside of the rust belt. Among the strongest tracks are the title track, "Don't Let Them Push You Around", "We're Not Dead Yet", the two-part medley of "Old Man Bar" and Junior's Bar" and "Rock Ola", Grushecky's first truly competent ballad. According to the liner notes, E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt produced and arranged five songs ("Junior's Bar", "Angela", "Running Scared", "Blondie", and "Don't Let Them Push You Around") and played lead guitar on "Junior's Bar" before leaving due to creative differences with Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson. The album was reissued on CD format in 1999.

I wish I could upload "We're Not Dead Yet" as well, another amazing song that didn't make it onto their Best Of, but I restrict myself to one song per album as a courtesy to the artist (bonus tracks don't count :D).

Lyrics:
You have your dreams, I have mine too.
Don't let them dreams get the best of you.
Working hard all day at a job that you hate.
Better cut yourself free before it's too late.

You better believe me, baby.
Stand your ground.
Don't let them push you around.
Don't let them push you around.
Don't let them push you around.
Don't let them push you around.

You got a chance you better take it,
And never look back.
You tried turning the cheek,
Now it's time to attack.
Don't let them get to you,
Don't let them get in,
And don't be ashamed of the places you've been.

You better believe me, baby.
Walk proud.
Don't let them push you around.
Don't let them push you around.
Don't let them push you around.
Don't let them push you around.
Don't let them push you around.
Don't let them push you around.

You better believe me, baby.
Walk proud.
Don't let them push you around.
Don't let them push you around.
Don't let them push you around.
Don't let them push you around.
Don't let them push you around.
Don't let them push you around.
