On August 19th, 2010, Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge read aloud to young children at two Cleveland area health facilities through the REACH OUT AND READ program.

REACH OUT AND READ is a nationwide program co-founded by Cleveland pediatrician Dr. Robert Needlman of MetroHealth Medical Center. Pediatricians and family physicians at 4,500 hospitals and clinics across the country currently participate in a mission to prepare America's youngest children for success in school. Through their efforts, free age-appropriate books are distributed to children in need.

Congresswoman Fudge supports REACH OUT AND READ's goal of sending one million children home with books before Labor Day. "Taking the time to read to our children is a prescription for success. It nurtures a love of learning and improves their reading skills. Literacy, after all, is the foundation of education." stated Congresswoman Fudge. "It's also a wonderful activity to bring families together."
