From the 2002 CALI Conference for Law School Computing

The purpose of the Avalon Project is threefold; to make documents available that otherwise might not be in fields of Law, History, Government and Diplomacy; to demonstrate the relationships between historical documents using Hypertext Technology; and to demonstrate that it is possible to create, build and maintain an on-line document archive without being a technology guru.
