Our dance school is dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of Belly Dance. We are all about helping new, intermediate and advanced students reach new levels of learning and achievements. We are located in the county of San Diego.

Belly Dancing comes from the western name meaning an improvised dance based on dancing solos and torso movements. The dance is from Middle Eastern decent and spans across many different kinds of cultures and countries. The dance does not have one originating western name. You may hear it described as Egyptian dance, Arabic dance, Oriental dance or Middle Eastern dance. The styles of the dance can also vary in costume, style and music type.

The dance itself is unique in its torso movements, with an isolated focus on the movements around the hips. These movements are gentle yet provide a very good workout for the body.

Belly dance is a good workout for any age. The age range of belly dancers in San Diego can start very early in life, all the way into a woman's golden years. As a woman ages, this kind of dance will keep the body flexible, which helps to slow the aging process. The movements found in Belly dance are often complemented through Yoga and other forms of slow moving fitness programs.

As a woman ages the core muscle group that spans from the chest area all the way down into the pelvis area is responsible for posture and skeletal strength. Weak core muscles can lead to a number of flexibility problems and to other more serious conditions as a woman ages.

It is not uncommon to find a renewed sense of flexibility after completing a month of classes or finding yourself with a renewed focus on posture.

Belly Dancing is also good for a woman's self-esteem. The movements themselves are tied to the way a woman feels and expresses herself. No two dancers are alike and it has to do with how the movements are tied deeply with the personality and sensuality that comes directly from within.

A few common movements that you may have heard about are Percussive, Fluid, Shimmies, Shivers and Vibrations. Within these movements are more advance techniques that can be brought together, forming a beautiful choreography.

Depending where you reside in the world, the dance does change. Each country has a style that is beautiful and represents the flare of the culture. Some modern styles of belly dance combine more than one country style together.

Belly dance in San Diego is continually growing and expanding. It is a great low impact way to stay in shape. If you have never taken a belly dance class before, the beginners' class is a great way to start. Drop-ins are welcome and new class sessions are available on a "first come first serve basis". It is important to sign up early to reserve a spot for an upcoming class.
