Since 2002, the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence has supported efforts of teacher institute alumni to organize Colonial Day at the State Capitol. This event serves approximately 500 Oklahoma fifth-grade students.schools around Oklahoma. Dressed in colonial costume, the students recite the Bill of Rights "Rap" and participate in a historical debate between patriots fighting for independence and loyalists faithful to Britain's king. Colonial Day includes teacher-led sessions where students play colonial games, practice early-American dances and test their skills as junior archaeologists. Through this video, we hope to inspire more schools in Oklahoma and other states to participate in Colonial Day events. For more information, visit www.colonialday.org.
