Performed on May 23, 2011, this song was the closer of the night's setlist, which featured five different groups playing music for charity. 100% of the money raised from ticket sales went toward donations to the American Red Cross, and scholarships for National Honor Society students at our high school.

Perhaps most impressive about this performance is that it is hugely improvisational. The band playing this song is only a collaboration of seniors from the school; we were not part of any band that had played together before.

We had met only one time prior to the show, five days before. In prepping beforehand, we basically said, "Go learn Free Bird and we'll see if it works." We all proceeded to sit down in the studio and crank out Free Bird with almost no tweaks whatsoever. So with no fine tuning, we said whatever happened live would be what we went with. It ended up being an absolute shellshocker for everyone, including the eight of us that played.
