Here is my translation for foreigner fans of Barış Manço with a footnote about who Süleyman is: A crazy boy from our village went to gurbet (away, absence from home) many years ago Süleyman... Upon hearing, we learnt that  he became a great man in a big city. Süleyman... (Refrain: Drummer, beat the drum; don't be lazy while using your hand! Hoppa!.. Zurnacı (the player of zurna), play the zurna; do not be lazy while using your tongue! Hoppa!..) One day, his letter arrived from gurbet. Upon reading it, we learnt that he was coming back to the village. Süleyman... Soup has boiled; rice has been cooked, too. We laid the table like a wedding feast. Süleyman... (Refrain) You seem to have changed a lot since the last time we saw you; You seem to have ‘’forgotten salaam (greeting) sabah (morning).’’  (*note: to forget salam sabah in Turkish means to cut smb dead) You just sat down to the meal (*note: in other words, you sat down to the meal without respecting others) It is obvious that gurbet did not do you good. Süleyman... (Refrain) You've eaten and drunk Bon appettite. So, tell us what you had seen (while you were away). Süleyman... Send the meal tray over here a little, let us taste! Süleyman... (Refrain) The name of the guy is Süleyman. Listen to me, man! He is number 1! This part of the song is for the tourists Why? Because Süleyman is back in town! Do you think you are a sultan? (*note: refers to Süleyman the Magnificient) Nothing but your name is similar to his, only. The earth shall be left to no one; Come to think that why shall it be left to you? (Refrain) Footnote: The man that B. Manço satirized in the song is Süleyman Demirel, a Turkish politician from a village of Isparta. He is a controversial figure having been very active in politics (both as prime minister and president, too) for a rather long time- nearly 40 years. The sultan to whom he had been compared is Süleyman the Magnificient who had ruled the Ottoman Empire-in its golden years- for 46 years. Yet, this song criticizes all the corrupt politicians trying to be like a king.
