Miguel Cabrera stood on the grass in foul territory at Marchant Stadium, just a few feet from the first base position he will soon occupy once again for the Detroit Tigers. Surrounded by members of the Tigers organization behind him with reporters and photographers in front of him, Cabrera squinted in the late afternoon sunlight Thursday and spoke softly.
"I want to apologize to everybody ... to my teammates, family and fans," Cabrera said. "This is very important to me. I'm very sorry for what I've done ... everybody, I let down."
Cabrera was arrested Feb. 16 on a DUI charge and two misdemeanor counts for resisting an officer without violence on the side of a road in Fort Pierce, Fla. The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office also cited him for having an open bottle of scotch in his black 2005 Land Rover.
