The relationship between the government, tech, and corporations was broken well before the iPhone encryption fight. Working within a legal framework designed for telcos in the 20th century, the government has had to improvise in ways that antagonized its potential partners in the tech and corporate world.

We NEED this relationship to be fixed in a way that both allows the government to protect us, while also protecting our privacy, and keeping corporations safe from potential hackers. This means passing new laws, changing current government practices, and building trust across the spectrum.

In this session we’ll hear from Obama camapign and admin advisor Michael Slaby, IBM’s global threat head Charles Henderson, and corporate security expert Misha Govshteyn on how we got here and what it will take to fix this mess.

About SXSW:
Started in 1987, South by Southwest (SXSW) is a set of film, interactive, and music festivals and conferences that take place early each year in mid-March in Austin, Texas. SXSW’s original goal was to create an event that would act as a tool for creative people and the companies they work with to develop their careers, to bring together people from a wide area to meet and share ideas. That continues to be the goal today whether it is music, film or interactive technologies.
