A worker with the Salvation Army in Mount Airy describes the pressing need for help. She said the office is overwhelmed with requests for help with food and help with housing and utility bills. The was from a gathering held in downtown Mount Airy on April 30, 2012 as part of the Truth & Hope Tour of Poverty in North Carolina, which was sponsored by the state NAACP, the NC Justice Center, AARP, the Center for Civic Engagement and Social Change at NCCU and the UNC law school's Center on Poverty.
