In the 1970s the BBC did a series of programmes called "Open Door" where the BBC gave campaign groups an opportunity to make a half hour programme explaining their case which the BBC then showed on BBC2. The Vegan Society made an application to do a programmes for the series, the application was accepted, and the YouTube video that you can see here is the programme that resulted. The original transmission of the programme led to over 9000 enquiries about veganism resulting in around 1,000 new members of the Society. Note that there are no animals shown in the programme, apart from a short film very near the end where a calf is taken away from its mother and driven away in a van. As well as the comments below, viewers and potential viewers may also wish to read the comments that were made on this video when it was split into 3 parts (owing to the then YouTube restrictions ).
