Speaker: Dr Helen Sissons (Auckland University of Technology) shared her three ideas:
1. By teaching transparency of reporting processes. 2. By teaching a willingness to interact with the audience. 3. By helping them build relationships with different media organisations.
This presentation was held as part of Workshop 3 of The Civics and Media, and contributed to the discussion of the day which focused on the question ‘How do we ensure a well-informed, civically engaged New Zealand in 2030?’
The primary output of the workshop series will take the form of a booklet. This aims to be an influential think piece, building knowledge on how we might work, together or separately, to ensure that a well-informed, civically engaged society exists in 2030. The finished booklet will be distributed widely in 2016.
The purpose of the Civics and Media Project is to inform and encourage public discourse and engagement regarding civics and media, with the ultimate aim of informing decisions by individuals, industry and institutions across society. Six agencies have joined together to examine whether citizens and communities have the news and information they need and want in a digital age and determine what a well-informed, civically engaged New Zealand will look like in 2030.
