Atletico Mineiro travelled to Gremio in the Campeonato Brasileiro on Sunday, with Ronaldinho returning to the club where he started his career.
After a drab opening 25 minutes, Bernard's trickery sparked the game into life as he set up former Manchester City man Jo to score. The hosts were close to levelling just two minutes later as Giovanni kept out Marcelo Moreno.
Five minutes before the break Giovanni kept out Moreno again as the host began to get frustrated. It was Atletico who had the better chances in the second half - Jo squandering a great chance to get his second.
With eight minutes remaining things got worse for Gremio as Anderson Pico was sent off after an innocuous looking challenge on Pierre. Atletico continued to miss chances to increase their advantage but it didn't matter as they held on for victory.
The win sees Atletico move into first by virtue of goal difference, they're joined on 16 points by Vasco da Gama.
