CCTV has captured the moment a Chicago shop owner armed with a baseball bat scared off a gunman, despite having been shot himself.

Surveillance video from the gift and sports shop in Chicago shows Luis Quizphe, 62, fighting off a robber with a baseball bat, despite having been shot in the leg.

Two robbers entered the shop and one of them shot Mr Quizphe as they were raiding the store.

Failing to realise that to exit the shop they had to be buzzed out, the robbers repeatedly attacked the shop workers and fired multiple shots.

Despite having been shot in the leg, Mr Quizphe can be seen hitting one of the robbers with a baseball bat to scare him off.

The robbers finally worked out how to the leave the shop and ran off.

Luis Quizphe is now recovering in hospital from his leg injury.

Police spokesman Mike Sullivan said 53-year-old Cornell Mack had been charged with attempted murder and armed robbery but that officers are still searching for the second suspect.
