In the 1990's, The Jim Henson Co. set sail on a bold television science fiction project, originally called Space Chase. Ambitious by any television standard, the show would require the combined artistic and technical talents of people on three continents. The fruit of their labor, renamed Farscape, premiered in the US in March 1999.
In the summer of 2001 I was driving home from work and came across the song Come Sail Away on the radio. I knew then that the song was the perfect theme for Farscape's early episodes. Over the last year, I played the song from time to time, synching the music with scenes from the show, at least in my head. Now I want to share the video with you.
Like Farscape, this video is from Crichton's perspective. Not the Crichton of now, but the naive scientist thrown into a universe beyond his imagination.
