Samsung Galaxy Nexus hits shops

"The Samsung Galaxy Nexus has hit shops with its huge high-definition screen and super-fast dual-core processor. More importantly, it comes with a big stamp of approval from Google itself as the Nexus champions the latest version of the Android smartphone operating system, known simply as Ice Cream Sandwich."

HTC Radar launched
"Not content to let Nokia take all the plaudits, HTC has released its own compact Windows Phone handset. The HTC Radar is a capable device that should appeal to those looking for a tidy smartphone without spending a fortune.

It might not match the Nokia Lumia 800 for sheer class, but HTCʼs latest Windows Phone deserves to be on every bargain hunters radar."

HTC Sensation XL released
"HTC hasnʼt neglected its Android duties either. The Sensation XL is out now and is the second handset from the company to sport Beats Audio and matching headphones on-board.

The big news, however, is that with a screen that measures just shy of 5-inches, the Sensation XL truly lives up to its name."

Top rumours

2012 the year of quad-core smartphones?
"With details of two quad-core HTC smartphones in development and reports of Samsung, LG and Motorola following suit, portable processing power is set to double up in 2012.

Some might complain we donʼt need such power in our phones, but that wonʼt stop the march of progress."

LIKELIHOOD-O-METER (high) - "Get ready to retire your laptop"

Quad-core tablet explosion by Christmas
"The quad-core revolution is hitting the tablet market even earlier. With the Asus
Transformer Prime confirmed for release by the end of the year and several competitors hot on its heels, 2011 looks set to go out with a quad-core bang. Now you know what to spend your Christmas money on."

LIKELIHOOD-O-METER (medium) - "The manufacturers are leaving it awful late, but we could well enjoy a quad-core Christmas"

Nokia making a Windows 8 tablet
"Nokiaʼs non-committal line on tablets appears to have been challenged by one of its own. The companyʼs general manager for France has claimed thereʼll be a Nokia tablet running on Windows 8 some time in June. Given Nokiaʼs close relationship with Microsoft, it would be stupid not to really."

LIKELIHOOD-O-METER (high) - "Weʼve heard it from the horseʼs mouth - this oneʼs a goer"

FoneHome reviews

iPhone 4S review
"At last, Appleʼs latest smartphone is with us - and it doesnʼt disappoint. While it looks identical to the iPhone 4, a much improved camera and surprisingly useful voice control
makes it a worthwhile upgrade. Besides which, those gorgeous glass and metal good looks havenʼt aged a day."

Nokia Lumia 800 review
"Nokia has hit the ground running with its first Windows Phone device, the Lumia 800. As soon as you pick it up you want to start using it, which is the sign of a truly great
smartphone. With its classy looks and excellent operating system, the Nokia Lumia 800 is a genuine iPhone and Android competitor."

HTC Sensation XE review
"As a modest upgrade of the HTC Sensation, the Sensation XE remains a fine phone. With a large qHD screen and a pair of high quality ear buds, it makes for an excellent media player.

The competition is far tougher than it used to be, however, and the HTC Sensation XE struggles to stand out from the late-2011 crowd."
