The amazing Sawstop - finger safe circular saw - seen at Canberra Timber and Working with Wood Show 2008. The saw table incorporates a brake and drop away on any contact with flesh. The sensor works on electrical conductivity, and uses a compressed gas charge to fire a piece of aluminium into the saw blade, stopping it instantly. The device works within 5 ms - ten times faster than a car air bag, seven times faster than a blink. This will make many workshops much safer!
