In April's edition of the Alaska Report, U.S. Senator Mark Begich hosted representatives of the First Alaskans Institute. The First Alaskans Institute works to "advance Alaska Natives through community engagement, information and research, collaboration, and leadership development."

Representing the Institute were Willie Hensley and Liz Medicine Crow. Mr. Hensley serves as the Institute's Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Distinguished as a former state legislator, Hensley authored the acclaimed book "Fifty Miles from Tomorrow: A Memoir of Alaska and the Real People."

Liz Medicine Crow serves as the Institute's Vice President and Director of the Alaska Native Policy Center.

In this episode, Sen. Begich and guests discuss the Institute's current work on Alaska Native issues, their intern program, and the role of the 2010 Census in Alaska Native communities.
