A “Return” always begins with a previous departure.
We leave our homeland to explore other cultures, to perfect our skills, to enrich our lives with new experiences.
Several Latin American composers – Villa-Lobos, Piazzolla, Grever, Lecuona – and others of Spanish origin – Granados, Obradors, Rodrigo, Falla – relocated in France to meet and study with the likes of Saint-Saëns and Debussy. The soprano Stephany Ortega has chosen the same path. Ten years ago she left her native country, the Dominican Republic, and went to study in Europe.
In the album “Return”, the Duo Rosa retraces an imaginary homecoming. Stephany and Léna take us on a surprising journey, passing through Luxembourg, France, Spain and Latin America, paying homage to composers of the Old and New Worlds who shared influences and who had strong ties with one another.
On this musical journey you will discover true gems of art song: French mélodie and Spanish-language canción, some of them well-known, others almost forgotten.
