4th graders participate in an Immigration Day at Coastal Ridge Elementary School in York, Maine every year. It's a wrap up activity to their unit on immigration. The students take on the roles of immigrants from different countries, and are hoarded into the gym to through customs and health inspections. Community members volunteer their time to play the roles of doctors, physicians, inspectors, ambassadors, and even Lady Liberty herself. The students really get into their roles as you can see from the slideshow. The slideshow is then played at the spring concert with music accompaniment from the 4th graders singing, "American Pride".
