We created the Sweet Dreams CGM Dock in order to make nights with Ava, our type 1 diabetic daughter, less disruptive and to provide us with immediate access to her blood sugar levels at all times. Prior to the Sweet Dreams CGM Dock, we would rubberband Ava's continuous glucose monitor to her bedside baby monitor in order to hear nighttime blood sugar alarms from other rooms in our home. Intrusive, multiple trips to Ava's bedroom were the only way to silence CGM alarms and to examine nightly blood sugar trends.
The solution? By constructing a wooden base and using parts from a garage door opener and video baby monitor, we devised a CGM dock which is a functional two-part unit that provides remote, live access to the data of a continuous glucose monitor. The system consists of: 1 - A stationary charging base that cradles a continuous glucose monitor, and accommodates an Internet protocol camera, microphone, and CGM activation system that turns on the screen. 2 - A handheld audiovisual monitor with a remote control that activates and allows access to a distant continuous glucose monitor.
The Sweet Dreams CGM Dock allows caregivers to inconspicuously retrieve CGM data of a person with type 1 diabetes while he or she is sleeping. Instant access to blood sugars gives peace of mind to caregivers about the health of their loved one. The Sweet Dreams CGM Dock permits simple access to blood sugars so that down-trending blood sugars can be treated before they become lows, and highs can be prevented. While a CGM is in the Dock, a caregiver can be notified of a blood sugar alarm anywhere... via a portable monitor while at home, or through an instant email alert with live video oversight. Sweet Dreams for all!
