When I first learned this beautiful song was written by a South African black man about the struggle against apartheid, I was flipped! For this song had spoken so strongly to me, I could just swear it was about gay rights against all in our personal lives who doubt our legitimacy. But it was written to be addressed by a black majority to the Apartheid regime in South Africa, so this is an adopted song. It sheds light on the beautiful struggle against apartheid. Anyone in a position of oppression and doubt you, they only have unquestioned power when you doubt yourself.
