Five musicians, collectively called Occupella/Singing For Peace, and a videographer have come together to create a series of music videos supporting the Occupy Movement. "Put It on the Ground" with lead vocalist Leslie Hassberg is one of these videos.
Occupella/Singing for Peace is the creation of Bay area singers and cultural workers Hali Hammer, Betsy Rose, Nancy Schimmel, Bonnie Lockhart, and Leslie Hassberg. The group organizes informal public singing gatherings at occupation sites, marches, and BART stations to promote peace, justice, and an end to corporate domination.
Classical music has been the main focus of mezzo-soprano Leslie Hassberg; she has sung with many local opera companies including the San Francisco Symphony and Opera Choruses. Ms. Hassberg has also done some arranging, accompanying, and producing for various choral groups in the Bay Area. She has an extensive repertoire of folk and labor music and has performed in several musicals.
Ms. Hassberg performs new verses that she has written to "Put It on the Ground" based on music by Ray Glazer and lyrics by Bill Wolff. Hali Hammer and Nancy Schimmel sing backup, and TD Daniell is the videographer.
