@TheJVCMan You cannot use the native JVC files in FCP, but you can convert them using Mpeg Streamclip (google it) it is free and fast and has a TON of export options. I made a video showing how to do this. (I have an HD version of the Everio, so they are .TOD files).

when i hook up the usb chord the iphoto pops up immed, is there something i need to do, i am trying to swap vid from my everio to my MBpro

when i hook up the usb to the mac the iphotos tab pops up immediatly, do i need to reformat the footage. also when i go to the everio icon i follow the pro*** and cnat find a file like in the vid.

hhmm... do you know how to get HD everio's to work with mac?

make sure you REMOVE ANY SD CARDS before you connect the camera to your computer or else it will only upload the PHOTOS taken with the camcorder and not the VIDEOS.

You can do a thing called "letterboxing". It will cut off part of the shot, but will make the frame 16:9 instead of 4:3.
