Governor Jerry Brown announced earlier this year that the Division of Juvenile Justice (also known as the DJJ) will no longer be accepting youth into its facilities starting January 2013. By 2014, responsibility for jailing youths will be handed over to local governments.
Although Brown says he set aside $10 million and one year for counties to prepare for the move, nothing is set in stone till the June 15th deadline.
