On January 1, 1892, Annie Moore from Cork, Ireland became the first immigrant to ever arrive at Ellis Island. The true Annie was discovered in 2006 (experts had latched on to another Annie), and her American cousins were reunited, but it took another decade to trace her Irish relatives.

On March 30, 2016, Annie's Irish and American cousins met for the first time at the Irish America Hall of Fame held in New York City. As it happens, Paul Linehan, her Irish 1st cousin 3 times removed, is a tenor, and he moved us all when he closed out the Hall of Fame event by singing the much beloved song about Annie by Brendan Graham, "Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears."

Incidentally, the fellow who can be seen moving about taking photos of Paul is his American cousin, Michael Shulman. The two had just met.
