Timelapse driving on Highway 401 between Highway 403 and 402 during a winter afternoon. It is one of the busiest sections of rural freeway in the world.
This section of the 401 handles a huge amount of truck traffic (Highway 401 is the world's busiest truck route) as all traffic between the US Midwest and the Golden Horseshoe (Toronto, Hamilton and Niagara Falls) is funneled through this stretch.
It was also one of the first sections of Highway 401 to be six-laned outside of the Toronto Region. It was done around 1990 by turning the former cloverleaf interchanges into diamonds, allowing it to be widened while keeping the existing overpasses. (The weave lanes became through lanes.)
