With her new single WRAP YOUR NIGHT AROUND ME and its accompanying video, composer, singer and musician MarieMarie continues her artistic vision, while also bravely and resolutely declaring that today, three years after her debut album, she utilises her tenacity even more significantly. The song, whose title uses the night as a metaphor for the eternal tension between self-exploration and self-discovery, neither opposes the current state of pop music, nor presents itself in a conventional format. WRAP YOUR NIGHT AROUND ME is the declaration of autonomy from an artist whose work is based on intuition and high demands of quality. But her music is simultaneously so wonderfully light that it almost effortlessly absorbs everyone who falls into it. Is it a trick? Kate Bush could sing a song about it... In the first single of her new album O, MarieMarie freely and associatively tells of a character that's looking for passion, self-fulfilment and self-discovery. In the opulent video for the single the character first reflects its desire for fulfilment outwardly – in sexual escapades and love for sale – before finally finding it within themselves. Loss in the external is thereby the harbinger of finding in the internal. Forms and formulas of homosexuality, love for sale and gender roles and identification are questioned in order to establish clarity and closeness to the character. The music is enriched by multifaceted images. Minor chords in the verses pave the way to an anthemic chorus. The interplay of contrast and the art of implying a sentiment rather than spelling it out are the methods of MarieMarie. Knowing that good pop music never deprives its listeners of their own interpretations, MarieMarie plays with perspectives both musically and in terms of content. She invites you to intensely and substantially interact with her sound art. Pop is 'art', 'art' is pop.
The Album „O“ will be released on March 23rd 2018.
