In this week's Begich Minute, U.S. Sen. Mark Begich joins his wife Deborah Bonito to honor military families by wearing purple. April 19 is Military Kids Day in Alaska as part of the "Month of the Military Child."

Nationwide, more than two million kids have a parent or parents serving in either an Active Duty or Reserve role for the U.S. Armed Forces. In Alaska, more than 13,000 children have one or more parents on full-time duty status in the military. Purple Up! is a fun way to show support and call attention to the special challenges - frequent moves, making new friends, and multiple deployments- faced by military kids.
