Set the copier to the scanner function with the scan button above the big green Start button
Press the Ariel destination button on the scan screen
Press the Application button on the left side of the screen
Press Book scanning & press OK
Press OK again to set the option
Do NOT line the book up against the edges of the scanning glass
Line it up more like this: Place the book 1/2 and inch below the top edge and an inch or more away from the left edge Make sure the spine crease is straight vertical and pressed down well so that text is not cut off in the center
Press the Start button to scan and wait for the scanner head to pass by about 3 times.
Turn the page make sure it is lined up the same way
When you are done scanning pages carefully like that Press the Store button on the screen
Then press the start button and your file will be sent to the Ariel PC desktop in the folder Named "PDFs from Printer"
Get and quickly fix up your files
The files are tiff format from the printer by default but the printer can also make PDFs directly.
I recommend if you need a PDF you do that on the Ariel station. See below
On the Ariel station your file will be the one with the highest number and most recent time.
Quickly arrange pages with the correct orientation
Double click you Tiff File and it will open in Microsoft Document Imaging tool
On the tools menu select "Recognize Text with OCR" and all the pages will magically reorient the pages correctly.
Save the file and exit Microsoft Document Imaging
Make a PDF
If you need a PDF then print from Microsoft Document Imaging and select PrimoPDF as the printer click OK to whatever it asks.
Right now it puts files on the desktop but if you pay attention to it save as dialog you can put the files somewhere else.
I recommend you put the files back in "PDFs from printer" Because the desktop will fill up way to quickly.
Book scanning does take some care but it does make the best formatted files quickly.
